A Letter From Phil | January 2020

Dear Friends,

Happy New Year!

As we enter January, I am struck again by the timeless theme of the greatness of the Gospel, and the power God has placed in its promises for the human race.

As a wise sage once reminded me, “Jesus is the Gospel.” Jesus is the entire package of Good News that every person in your local community needs.

I would like to encourage you to meditate on that thought as you enter the year. Nothing else will ever compare to the transformational reality that people experience when the Gospel has redirected their hearts and lives.

When you find yourself worrying about the world around you, remember that God intervened, God came toward humankind, and that humanity responds to God’s great initiative of love toward us through Christ.

All of this has been done in the Incarnation, and even one little step toward God is a response worth helping others take!

As my spiritual father often quoted, “He who takes one step toward God, through doubt and darkness dim, will find Him come 10,000 leagues in fadeless light toward him.”

In this coming year at Vineyard USA, we’ll be focusing on the powerful theme of the “Greatness of the Gospel.”
