Vineyard USA has a national partnership with Convoy Of Hope, a Christian relief organization ministering to devastated communities in times of disaster. Convoy is currently at work in Louisiana, and to learn more about them and our partnership,  click here.

Vineyards in South Louisiana are also serving their communities through cleanup teams, food distribution, and moral support in the wake of the devastating floods that impacted the state recently.

Coordinating a “Vineyards helping Vineyards” effort at the Baton Rouge Vineyard, these churches are assisting those in need through acts of compassion and mercy.

The Scale Of The Devastation

To give a sense of the scale of the devastation, this note came in from Doug Anderson, who is coordinating a basecamp at the Baton Rouge Vineyard to prepare to host any Vineyard teams that want to help: “Denham Springs, a suburb of Baton Rouge, has 10,000 homes under water. That’s more than the Lakeview area of New Orleans during Katrina – and it took them 3 years to come back. Some estimates are coming in that more homes have been flooded here than in New Orleans due to Katrina.”

30 counties have been declared disaster areas, 30K have been rescued, 11K are in shelters, and approximately 40K homes have been damaged. The Baton Rouge, Northshore, and Lafayette Vineyards have been affected.

This note came in from Phil Jeansonne, pastor of the New Orleans Vineyard:

“Southern Louisiana has been pounded with some areas receiving over 20” of rain over three days resulting in massive flooding from the many rivers, tributaries and other waterways that flow through our region.

As of today 30 parishes/counties have been declared disaster areas by the federal government, 11 people have died, 30,000+ have been rescued from their flooded homes, over 11,000 people are still in shelters and approximately 40,000 homes have been damaged.

Three of our churches are in the immediate areas that have experienced flooding; Baton Rouge, Northshore, and Lafayette Vineyards. The churches are not damaged but some staff and many church families have been affected. The churches are positioned to respond to the needs of their communities and have already become involved in feeding several thousand people over the last three days.”

Join us in prayer for the Vineyards in the area, as they attempt to be Christ’s hands and feet in a time of great challenge.
