What are some of the ways that Vineyard Pasadena reaches out during traditional holiday seasons? Here are two examples of how this church uses important holidays to make a difference.
Mother’s Day
For Mother’s Day, we wanted to find inexpensive but impactful ways to bless the homes in the vicinity of our gathering place. We’re a new church plant, so the budget is tight. We settled on buying potted plants from Orchard Supply Hardware. The plants cost 50 cents each when purchased in 6-packs plus (there was a special sale going on the Friday before Mother’s Day.)
To spruce up the presentation, my amazing wife took a couple of these plants and repotted them, with additional soil, into a clay pot we purchased at a 99 Cents Only store.
On the Saturday before Mother’s Day, six of us went door to door and left these plants on people’s doorsteps together with an invite card to our service the following day.
Along the way, we met many who were home or came out to see who we were—so there were some great connections that happened. One woman who’d had a difficult morning told me that I made her day.
Father’s Day
Again, thank God for 99 Cents Only store! The week before Father’s Day, we made our own door hangers and stapled AA batteries to them.
Since the AAs come with a convenient hole to hang on store displays, we passed a sturdy rubber band through it and used this to hang on doors.
The total cost was about $1.50 per unit! People smiled, thanked us, and asked why we were doing this. What we’ve noticed in the way of a tangible outcome is that we’ve had lots more visitors since these outreaches.
It seemed as if God has smiled on us and blessed us – by sending people our way.
