Spiritual Director Network
Starting in 2025, Vineyard USA started a nation-wide network of vetted spiritual directors to serve and support. The directors below will walk alongside to discern God's voice & help you form a healthy inner life.
About Spiritual Direction
The Vineyard Spiritual Direction network provides trusted guides for your life with God, who help you notice where God is working and what He is saying.
One of the core definitions of spiritual direction defines it as “help given to another which enables that person to pay attention to God’s personal communication,” to respond to that communication, and to grow intimacy with the God who is present with us and speaks to us (Barry & Connolly, The Practice of Spiritual Direction).
In spiritual direction, you and the spiritual director pay attention to the often slow and quiet work of the Holy Spirit in your life and listen for God in it.
The time will feel prayerful, and you might experience silence, and some prayerful listening. Time often slows down a bit as you and the director wait together on the Holy Spirit. The spiritual director will ask thoughtful, Spirit-led questions that go past the surface, and invite you into those deeper places.
The time won’t focus on advice-giving or guidance regarding a decision. The director may offer some wisdom, and will often allow you space to hear God for yourself. They may give you a practice to try on your own after the session, or something to take to God and interact with Him further about.
Meeting with a spiritual director can benefit you at any point in your life and ministry. It can be especially helpful:
- When you want to connect with God or process something in your relationship with God.
- When you’re in a transition from one season or stage of life to another
- When you’re making a decision and need a space for discernment
- When you’re processing a loss or a place of grief
- When you want to grow spiritually
- When you have questions about God or yourself in the middle of a difficult season
- When you need to pay attention to your own life in the midst of your ministry to others
Typically, people meet with a director once a month for an hour. You might meet over Zoom or in person. Sometimes the series of meetings will be short, but often people meet with the same director over time—even years, if there is a particularly good fit.
Most directors charge a fee for the meeting, generally $65-85 (some fees are higher or lower than this range). Many also offer a sliding scale or a discount for ministry leaders. We encourage those on church staff to find out if their church will cover a portion of the costs.
Visit our listing of directors on the ‘Find a Spiritual Director’ tab to see who is available, and then contact them directly or contact us to help you find a fit. Either you or the director may suggest an initial conversation that allows both of you to discern a good fit. In that conversation, you’ll get to know more about the director, and you can tell the director about yourself. For example:
- You can tell the director about your experience with spiritual direction — are you new to it and need an introduction to it? Have you had past experiences that were good? Have you learned anything about what makes a good fit for you?
- Perhaps you noticed one of their special interests or areas of expertise, and would like to hear more about it and why it’s important to them.
- You might want to describe a little of what you’re hoping for from meeting with a spiritual director, or you might want to know more about their background.
Other directors will suggest simply starting in with a short meeting series, and allowing that series to help you determine whether the director/directee relationship is a good longer-term fit. Of course, as the directee, you can always request a short initial meeting.
If you’d like to learn more about spiritual direction, the following resources can help:
Listen: Danielle Pathak featured spiritual direction on a webinar where she and Harry Fritzenschaft (who leads the Vineyard Coaching Network) talked about coaching and spiritual direction. You can find the webinar replay here. Listen from the beginning to hear about both coaching and spiritual direction. For spiritual direction specifically, go to 35:24.
Read: “Being and Becoming” for an overview of Vineyard spiritual direction. “Being and Becoming” is a 2024 paper written by Jared Boyd, who interviewed several seasoned spiritual directors in the Vineyard.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
Receiving spiritual direction changed my life. My first two sessions, I cried . . . and also fell asleep. Young mom of 3, just wrapping up being a children’s pastor, lacking vision, exhausted. . . . That someone would sit with me and listen not only to me but to the heart of God with me, for me—I will never be the same. Thank God. After months of receiving, I was invited to train to become a spiritual director. I will be holding space for people’s life seasons until the day I die. Listening with them for where God has been, is, and wants to be in their lives . . . not because I have any answers but because God has all of them and wants us to know Him.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I come in awe and wonder that every time He is faithful to be present when we draw near to Him. I bring over a decade of spiritual direction experience, questioning, wondering, weeping, laughing, silence, doubting, knowing God — the kind of knowing that only happens when we quiet our hearts with Him. I have sat long with female pastors, pastor’s wives, former pastors, team leaders, moms, young adults skeptical of it all . . . and God is faithful. We open with a word of Scripture, inviting the Holy Spirit to do what only He can do, trusting the heart of God as He leads us how to live like Jesus, right where we are, coming as we are. It is no joke that when we choose to pause with Him, we have created space for healing, hearing, seeing, knowing, and loving. I have seen it hundreds of times, and look forward to thousands more. Kingdom come.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I love helping people “dust for the fingerprints of God” in their every day lives. I love having the honor and joy of seeing the uniquely personal ways Father, Son and Spirit passionately pursue deeper intimacy with each person. I love companioning with people who are intentionally fighting to keep their “first love” as first place in their lives. I love the privilege of being able to walk with people over the long haul as they experience all the seasons of their journey.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I bring more than 40 years of following Jesus and seeking to grow in deeper identity, intimacy, and fruitfulness. I bring the joys and sorrows of living out faith in Jesus in the seasons of life as a son, brother, husband, father, construction worker, business owner, volunteer ministry leader, part-time youth pastor, full-time associate pastor, short-term missionary, and interim lead pastor. I bring a passion to help people keep their first-love relationship with God in the beauty and messiness of everyday life. I bring an awareness that there is nothing eternal that can happen without the Presence and guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Areas of Expertise
One of my primary places of expertise is helping those serving Jesus in ministry full-time, part-time or volunteer leadership navigate the challenges of cultivating a growing and intimate relationship in the context of the demands of ministry. Not that I have done it perfectly, but rather that I have experience, compassion, and understanding of that daily challenge and have experienced God’s faithfulness in seeing that it is possible to thrive in both “being” and “doing.”
As a former business owner/contractor and a pastor who walked alongside many business leaders, I have a passion and experience in helping others discern how to live out their faith and the Kingdom in the midst of workplace. I have seen the power of the Holy Spirit at work myself and witnessed His work in many others to partner with Jesus in the calling of Kingdom marketplace ministry.
I bring experience in both my own learning journey and teaching others about the varied spiritual practices God has given us to position ourselves to better pay attention and respond to His invitations to deeper intimacy.
I bring a deep passion and experience in helping others grow in a healthy lifestyle of Ignatian discernment in everyday life.
I bring experience in walking alongside men as they navigate their journey into encountering the love of the Heavenly Father and His voice speaking into their identity.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I love that spiritual direction is a space to explore the depths of our inner life with safety and companionship. It’s my experience that so many of us hit times in the spiritual journey where we need a space to intimately explore our questions, decisions, and relationship with God in the company of another trusted and experienced sojourner. That was definitely the case for me. I was 31 when I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer while pregnant with my daughter. She was born premature at 31 weeks. A year after she was born, my father died suddenly and I was left reeling with all my questions, pain, and grief. It was in spiritual direction where I found the safety and freedom to grieve and ask the hard questions I had and receive God’s love for me simply by being with Him.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I’ve had to work through a lot of pain and brokenness in my story with the Lord. I’ve also had a lot of painful ministry experiences that were messy and needed safety to process. I think it’s given me capacity go deep with my directees and allow space for the Holy spirit to do beautiful work.
I think I bring warmth to the spiritual direction space. I’ve found that empathy and kindness open the door to receive God’s comfort and care as well as His many other invitations.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I love the spiritual companionship of spiritual direction. I love the process of sitting together quietly, waiting together. I love being a witness to God at work in someone’s life. I love the interaction. I love that spiritual direction is an unhurried, slow, unfolding process which makes space for reflection and time for compassionate listening. I appreciate spiritual direction for its unique role in providing an avenue for the care of others in an unhurried, contemplative setting.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
It is my belief that we bring who we are. With that thought in mind, I would say I bring, by God’s great grace, all my life experiences and interactions I have experienced with people, circumstances, and challenges. They are all formational to my life and the deep trust I have in the love and faithfulness of God. I also bring a deep love and respect for the value and unique place of spiritual direction in each believer’s journey with God.
Areas of Expertise
I bring my experience of pastoral care (over 25 years). In addition to this, I also bring my 25 years experience working bi-vocationally in health care as a nurse (BSN); I see the value of spiritual direction in both fields of life.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I am honored to partner with the Trinity in being a spiritual companion to others in their journey toward greater intimacy with God. It is a delight to watch God at work in the unique ways each person experiences Him. I have been a birth “doula” of sorts to over a dozen different women and each birth was unique and beautiful, as each woman was created uniquely and beautifully. I bring that same wonder to the job of spiritual direction, being there to support, encourage, and celebrate the new life that the Lord is bringing to each directee.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I was trained in Missional Spiritual Direction from Bakke University that focused on the inward, outward, and together journey. I was drawn to this program because of the missional focus I have in walking out our heavenward journey here on this earth. I am currently completing an addition training with the Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction, which is helping me hone my skills as a director and is deepening my own spiritual walk tremendously. I hope to bring my whole self into my spiritual direction sessions, to be a person of presence as a conduit of His Presence.
Areas of Expertise
I bring 40+ years of Vineyard discipleship and leadership experience to my ministry of Spiritual Direction. I also have been trained in and train Immanuel Prayer facilitators for inner healing work. My husband and I coach several church planters in St. Louis, and co-pastor a local church, Table of Grace.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I delight in creating a safe space for my directees, one that is free of criticism, judgment, or other agendas—including giving you my opinion or telling you what to do. My greatest joy comes from seeing women interact with God in a very personal way that brings healing and discovery.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
My own journey has been marked by trauma and healing, loss and restoration, the loneliness of leadership, and the support of other leaders. All this has taken place within business, church, educational, and nonprofit environments. This history, along with my bicultural background, positions me to be able to understand your unique perspective and experiences. I love to join strong women on their journeys in a way that allows them to be vulnerable, knowing that whatever they tell me will be gently held with full respect for their privacy.
What I bring to supervision
In supervision, I bring a special heart for women who accompany others. My training background is particularly helpful to new (or newish) spiritual directors.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
It is a joy and sacred privilege to companion people in spiritual direction. I love listening to them share their cares/concerns/joys in partnership with God and then witness the Holy Spirit meet them. It is such a joy to see how, over time, people relax and find joy in the growing intimacy and security of their relationship with God. Participating in this relational experience never fails to increase my trust in His love and faithfulness.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I love people and love Jesus!
I bring compassion, curiosity, patience, and a deep trust in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit’s love for all people.
I offer a warm, welcoming, nonjudgmental, and safe place to process your experiences, questions, struggles, and joys with God and a supportive companion. I will not offer advice but, rather, together we will prayerfully listen and trust God and His Word to provide insight, hope, peace, guidance, a renewed sense of His love, or whatever is needed. I am comfortable working with women, men and youth.
Areas of Expertise
Beyond experiencing the joys and struggles associated with being a wife, mother, and grandmother, I have been immersed in Bible Study and lay Christian ministry for 45 years and have been engaging in spiritual formation practices for 10+ years. As a seasoned nurse practitioner, I have had years working with people trying to recover from addictions.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I love helping people who have historically struggled with engaging in a deep, intimate relationship with God begin to learn how to see God’s work in their lives and discover their desire toward God and some simple ways to engage with God that fit who they are. Having almost 50 years of pastoral experience, I especially have a heart for pastors.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I bring to spiritual direction 50 years of being a disciple of Jesus, most of that time in full-time pastoral ministry. For many of those years I struggled with developing and maintaining a consistent, deep devotional relationship, but over the past 15 years I have learned how to connect with God and love to help pastors and others who have a similar struggle.
Areas of Expertise
I have four decades of ministry experience as a lead pastor and church planter in the Vineyard movement. I served as an Area Leader in the Eastern Region of the Vineyard from 1993-2005. I am a graduate of Talbot School of Theology and Sustainable Faith School of Spiritual Direction and have been a spiritual director since 2016. I led the Soul Care Task Force for the Eastern Region from 2012-2018, and served as Pastor of Spiritual Formation for four years at Elm City Vineyard in New Haven, CT.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
Through the practice of spiritual direction, I love being a witness of seeing and hearing how the Holy Spirit is moving in the directee. It’s a privilege to be invited into that space. I also feel a ton of gratitude for the Lord opening the door for my wife, Jane, and I to engage in such a deeply personal ministry with the directees. We have grown to really love and appreciate those we do spiritual direction with.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
Years of experience in ministry from an early age in youth ministry with Young Life and Youth for Christ. I also have Seminary training (1988 Denver Seminary graduate with an MA in counseling), so am well versed in therapeutic listening skills that are used in spiritual direction. I have also appreciated the learning I have received through the past 5 years with my trainings with Sustainable Faith in Spiritual Direction, Supervision, and now being a teacher. I also have done a lot of work learning about AAPI issues with a cohort we’ve done with Dr Daniel Lee from Fuller seminary. This has been very rich for me and my awareness of my experiences as a Japanese American in a White dominant culture.
What I bring to supervision
I have two years of experience giving and receiving supervision through our training with Sustainable Faith.
Areas of Expertise
25 years of experience in Vineyard church leadership. I also have experience with the Vineyard as a Church Planting Coordinator, Area Leadership, and Regional Leadership. I have worked extensively with Petros Network planting indigenous church plants in South Sudan, Uganda, and Myanmar.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I love the relational process of being with another, co-discerning the Lord’s movements in this person’s life. Spiritual Direction offers many things—healing, growth, curiosity, safety—but, above all, it’s sacred ground. To be invited into someone’s story, into both the joys and sorrows, to wonder with them, and to gently guide—well, at its core, this is a holy gift.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
Nothing is off the table in our sessions together. Bring your questions, experiences, struggles, joys, heartbreaks—anything that you sense the Lord stirring within. Regardless if our time is seasonal or long-term, this space is for you. I’ve been with others in a variety of life stages (e.g., vocational changes, church skepticism/hurt, sudden loss, exploration and healing of early and often painful formational experiences, etc.) and with all ages. I fully believe in the supernatural power of presence and I love entering into the depths required of a “soul friend.” I’m really looking forward to being with you.
What I bring to supervision
I view supervision as a space for the spiritual director as one who is in service to the directee. Whether it’s a group or a one-on-one session, we’ll explore what’s surfacing for the director as they consider their sessions with a particular directee (or directees, if there is a common thread). This space is meant for the director to feel safe, heard, and encouraged as we seek and discern together.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
What I love the most about spiritual direction is the faithfulness of God to show up every time in every session. I start each session asking God to guide us to the unique invitation he has for the person, the invitation for more of him. At the end of the session we talk about where the directee saw God’s invitation to them, and always God has shown up with more for the directee. His love for each one of us is so evident when we seek him!
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
One of the things I bring to spiritual direction is my own journey with grief. My youngest sister was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the age of 50. She was full of life. She battled for 3 years before the cancer took her away from us. With her illness and death, I struggled with God. Then a few years later my husband of 44 years died as well. Grief upon grief was the journey I was on in those years. One year after my husbands death I was diagnosed with breast cancer. With all of these experiences has come a deepening in my intimacy with God, increase in self awareness, and greater compassion for others as they journey with grief. I was also a Vineyard pastor for 16 years, with that came lots of opportunities to journey with people as they navigated difficult life circumstances.
Areas of Expertise
As mentioned above, I bring significant experience with personal grief. I am also a cancer survivor. I am certified to accompany others on the Ignatian journey. I have personally completed the 18th and 19th Annotations. I am trained to lead in both individuals and small group in the Ignatian exercises. I also have 16 years of pastoral ministry experience and 10 years of higher education experience. I was married for 44 years, have 4 wonderful adult children, and 5 precious grandchildren. I also have traveled a good amount and have a lot of experiences in cross-cultural situations.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I find tremendous joy in creating contemplative, safe spaces for others to discern God’s love gently leading them. Spiritual Direction has made a profound impact in my own work and ministry, and I feel honored to sit in this sacred space with others to witness the ways God is at work.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
The slow contemplative space created in the time of spiritual direction has been transformative in my own life and work. It is my passion to walk with others as they seek to live and work out of a sustaining connection with God. My heart as a Spiritual Director is to create spaces for people to honestly share their journey with God, both the good and difficult, and look for the graces that show how God is at work.
What I bring to supervision
In addition to my spiritual direction practice, I also enjoy training and supervising spiritual directors. Supervision is a gentle space to explore areas of our own lives that are stirred up while offering spiritual direction.
Areas of Expertise
I am a trained educator and social worker whose passions have converged with the practice of Spiritual Direction. My work experience includes teaching middle school in South Side Chicago, working with YWAM in Taiwan, Nepal, and Ukraine, and facilitating economic empowerment with survivors of homelessness, addiction, and sex trafficking in New York City.
I studied Nonprofit Management at Columbia School of Social Work and completed my certificate in Spiritual Direction and certification in supervising Spiritual Directors through Sustainable Faith’s School of Spiritual Direction. In addition, I served in leadership at The166, a Vineyard church plant in Midtown Manhattan, where I led contemplative retreats in the city.
I completed a training in the Ignatian Exercises through the Order of The Common Life and enjoy leading retreats in the 19th Annotation.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is a special kind of conversation in which the participants slow down, tune in to the Holy Spirit and to their own hearts, and explore the terrain of the directee’s life through a different lens. I love the contemplative quality of this set-apart time and the privilege of accompanying another soul through the current leg of their journey.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I usually start each spiritual direction session, after prayer and silence, with a scripture passage or perhaps a poem, prayerfully chosen for that particular person on that particular day. Very often, after more silent pondering, the directee will begin by remarking how meaningful that passage or poem is to them at this time and why. I am genuinely interested to learn each person’s story and what concerns bring them to spiritual direction.
Areas of Expertise
I have a special heart for survivors of childhood trauma and dysfunction. Having discovered my own path of healing through art, I can bring the power of images, poetry, and creativity into my practice. For example, as a trained SoulCollage® Facilitator, I host a monthly group, both virtual and in person, which is also open to directees.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
Spiritual direction is a discipline that produces tangible fruit. Regularly seeking an hour to commune with God with a guide for discernment, encouragement, reflection, even correction, is a powerful rhythm. Personally, my trust in Jesus has grown exponentially since I started directing in 2017 because I witness the slow, meticulous work of God’s transforming love over and over again. It is magnificent to notice a wound in a client that seems untouchable or unmovable and then watch God, over months (and sometimes years) bring all the pieces together to finally expose the wound to his healing light and care for it as only he can.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
Helping people understand how they experience God, both corporately and individually, comes naturally for me. Even as a child, I seemed to understand what was going on in the hearts of those around me and intuitively know what needed to happen for wholeness. I’ve always loved asking questions and listening to how other people experience the world. I’d never heard of spiritual direction, but literally heard the words “spiritual direction” in my mind several times over the course of a month or so, and decided to google it. As I read about the purpose, and the concepts of contemplative spirituality in general, I knew I’d found something that was meant to be a significant part of my life.
Areas of Expertise
Before I learned about contemplative spirituality and became a spiritual director, I served as a Vineyard worship leader (and still do today). Exploring spiritual disciplines and tapping into a more embodied faith changed the way I approach leading worship, and I love working with worship leaders or creatives to help them bridge the same gap. Additionally, I have an entrepreneurial bent and have served the church co-vocationally for most of my career. This experience has been helpful to clients who are also co-vocational or work in other industries as mission.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I like to provide a contemplative and slow pace where one is able to reflect and listen to the directions of the Holy Spirit, the true director. I love looking for the “fingerprints” of God in a directee’s life. I’m passionate about good evocative questions that can make one get a good understanding of one’s self. I strive to have a comfortable, non-judgmental atmosphere where the soul can unpack and find itself.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I bring my life’s experience and the wisdom that age has conferred. I bring the Lord’s gifting of listening and being present. Listening to the Holy Spirit to follow where He might lead within a session. I bring my God-given curiosity and compassion. The ability to listen respectfully, be non-judgmental, not give advice, and keep a calm and soothing presence.
What I bring to supervision
I enjoy serving other directors by providing supervision. Helping them unpack the situation/session that they have brought to supervision. I try to provide an atmosphere of peace, contemplation, and gentleness.
Areas of Expertise
For now, I am enjoying teaching and develop Spanish-speaking courses so that others who feel a calling to become spiritual directors have an opportunity to do so, regardless of their English fluency. I love giving spiritual direction to those the Lord has placed in my care to journey with them. I am enjoying accompanying others in the 19th Annotation of the Ignatian Exercises.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
I love the sacred space to explore what we’re noticing or not noticing about God in our everyday lives. This space always gives me pause to reflect, to remember, and to often reset my mind and body into a place of quiet and solitude, especially as I navigate a full life with a type A personality! : )
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
I feel that I am a good listener who brings empathy and compassion to a session. I love to sit with people in a one-on-one setting, and feel that I have been through a lot of life in almost 65 years, so can relate to many experiences. I also love to watch what God does in directees as they are open to listening and hearing from God in their daily life journey.
What I bring to supervision
I love doing supervision with directors—it is a space to deeply explore the inner movements of the director during a session. I’ve found supervision to be so helpful for self awareness in myself and also in directors that I’ve supervised. From years of pastoral ministry doing mentoring and discipling, I’ve experienced supervision to be a great blend of doing spiritual direction along with a bit of teaching and mentoring.
Areas of Expertise
My husband and I have raised 4 children—2 of whom are adopted internationally. We also have two daughter-in-laws and 5 grandkids. We’ve been in senior pastoral leadership—planted a Vineyard church (10 years), and also taken over a large Vineyard church (15 years). Because of this, I feel that I bring some expertise (maybe 🙂 and experience in managing and balancing family life and ministry, working through life transitions, as well as having navigated the world of adoption. I also worked as a CPA for 20 years, so feel that I have some knowledge in managing and understanding finances. I am a 1 on the Enneagram and have a type A personality, so I have been on a journey to slow down and “ruthlessly eliminate hurry” from my life.

About
What do I love about spiritual direction?
Spiritual Direction provides an intentional space to cultivate a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. It encourages openness, prayerful reflection, and listening to the Holy Spirit, which nurtures spiritual growth and transformation.
Guiding someone through these moments of discernment is a privilege, and it often brings new insights into my own faith journey as I see how God is at work in others’ lives.
What do I bring to spiritual direction?
Creating a safe, judgment-free space where my directees can open their hearts, minds, and senses to the Lord. Offering compassionate listening and Spirit-led reflection, only when prompted, so they feel seen, heard, and valued.
