Dear Vineyard Family,
Jan and I have just come back from some down time where we took the chance to unplug and get out of the house for a while. It was a hot couple of days here in Maine, in the upper 90s and the sun was shining, so we drove to the coast. Once we got there, it was foggy and about 70 degrees. There was fog for about a mile on either side of us along the coast, but inland… sunny and 90s! Same relative location but two very different experiences.
It makes me think about where we are at this moment.
Even within our local churches we are experiencing very different realities. There is stress around when to open or when not to open, what precautions to take or not to take, what to say or not to say, and the list continues. Multiply this with the ever-changing news and media and we have some hard emotions to contend with. It’s easy to get bogged down by the herd.
What keeps us as Kingdom people on the rails? “EDLD – Do It Again.” This is not a vogue slogan.
These activities are the nonnegotiables of life with Jesus. He has never stopped doing the work of evangelism (E), discipling individuals (D), nurturing them as leaders (L), and reaching out to the least, the last, and the lost of every tribe, age, and language (D). Keeping this in front of us as local churches, and as the Vineyard, will keep us on the rails in ever changing realities for years to come.
We will never outgrow the need for these essential practices to rise again and again to the top of our list of priorities. Not only will the Kingdom expand, but what we do as we “EDLD” others will keep us on track – and change our hearts in the process.
This cycle, EDLD, is one we can and must repeat again, and again, and again – over a lifetime. There it is. EDLD – Do It Again. That is the old thing, that is the new thing, that God is doing – and it’s what I’m giving my life to.

Querida Familia Vineyard,
Jan y yo acabamos de regresar de un tiempo de descanso en el que aprovechamos la oportunidad de desconectarnos y salir de la casa por un tiempo. Tuvimos un par de días calurosos aquí en Maine, en los 90’s y el sol brillaba, así que fuimos en auto a la costa. Una vez allí, encontramos neblina y unos 70 grados. Había neblina por aproximadamente una milla de cada lado en la costa, pero tierra adentro… ¡soleado y con 90 grados! La misma ubicación relativa pero dos experiencias muy diferentes.
Me hace pensar en este momento donde nos encontramos.
Aun dentro de nuestras iglesias locales estamos experimentando realidades muy diferentes. Hay tensión en cuanto a cuando abrir o cuando no abrir, qué precauciones tomar o no tomar, qué decir o qué no decir, y la lista continúa. Multiplica esto por las noticias y los medios que cambian constantemente y tenemos algunas emociones difíciles con que lidiar. Es fácil terminar paralizados por la manada.
¿Que es lo que nos mantiene en los carriles como pueblo del Reino? “EDLD – Hazlo de Nuevo”. Esto no es una expresión de moda.
Estas actividades son los asuntos no negociables en la vida con Jesús. Él nunca ha dejado de hacer el trabajo de evangelismo (E), discipulando a los individuos (D), desarrollándolos como líderes (L), y llegando a los más pequeños, a los últimos y a los perdidos de cada tribu, edad y lenguaje (D). Dándole prioridad a esto como iglesias locales, y como la Viña, nos mantendrá encarrilados en medio de realidades constantemente cambiantes por muchos años.
Nunca superaremos la necesidad de que estas prácticas esenciales asciendan, una y otra vez, a la cima de nuestra lista de prioridades. No sólo el Reino se expandirá, sino que aplicando los principios “EDLD” con los demás nos mantendrá en el camino – y cambiará nuestros corazones en el proceso.
Este ciclo, EDLD, es uno que podemos y debemos repetir vez tras vez tras vez – a lo largo de toda una vida. Ahí está. EDLD – Hazlo De Nuevo. Esto es lo viejo, esto es lo nuevo, que Dios está haciendo – y es a esto que yo estoy dedicando mi vida.
